Do you know the characteristics that set it apart from a suit? Satin, first of all: all tuxedos have satin details—satin-faced lapels, satin buttons, and a satin side-stripe down the pant leg—suits do not. While suits can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories, there are some strict rules as much as regard tuxedos: accessories should include a cummerbund, a waistcoat, suspenders, and a bowtie. In the same way, suits can be worn with a variety of dress shirts, in a solid color or pattern, while tuxedo should be matched with a white shirt that has either a wing collar or a turndown collar. Why should one opt for a tuxedo, then, if it sounds to be so little versatile? It represents the only appropriate choice for a wide range of black-tie occasions and should never miss in a gentleman's wardrobe.
